With nothing better to do with her time, Demeter headed down to the barn and entered her mare's stall. "You want to go for a ride?" She asked the mare as she slipped the pink halter over the dun's nose and secured it behind her ears. "I was thinking we could go exploring on the trails." She continued as she led Sprite out of her stall and put her into a set of crossties before heading down to the tack room and returned with the mare's tack and grooming bucket.
After giving her a thorough groom, to make sure there was nothing that could cause the mare any irritations under the saddle. She then methodically tacked the mare up, fastened her riding helmet, led her outside and using the mounting block, swung herself into the saddle. "Walk on!" She sang to the mare as she squeezed with her legs and the mare headed off down the path toward the trails.
Demeter hummed a bright tune as they plodded down the path. She shrugged her shoulders to loosen them up, it had only been a week since she had last been on a horse, and already it seemed she was loosing condition - the rider, not the horse.
"Easy baby!" She exclaimed as the mare through in a huge buck and shied sideways as a rabbit scurried cross their path. "It's okay, I'm sure that rabbits here don't eat horses She added with a laugh as she rubbed the mare's neck. "There's a good girl." The mare lowered her head and snorted as they continued on their way.
Demeter was glad that she had managed to sit to the mare's antics, as she knew the mare had an intense fear of being deserted when things got bad, and she didn't want her mare returning to the hollow shell she had once been.

OOC: Hey, is it okay if they know each other already?
Mitchie wandered into the barn and stood in front of Tayli's stall. The roan mare shyed away as she approached, her beautiful face wrought with alarm. Her whole body language was alive with fear as she stared her new owner up and down. Mitchie looked at her face, but away slightly from her eyes directly, admiring the fine lines in her young face. She slowly edged towards the gate, keeping her body language friendly, but firm. The young mare's ears pricked towards Mitchie.
Slowly opening the stable door, she kept still and quiet as she backed away, neighing. It would take a long, long time for her to get over her fear of people. Just letting her come into the stall without a huge fuss would be a start. She had been going into the filly's stall for a few weeks now, and she'd reacted in the same way every single day. Maybe it was just instinct? Slowly, she'd begun to groom her and stroke her gently. Tack hadn't yet been approached, but she'd got used to a halter. She still freaked at the sight of other people, even those wearing dresses like the ones the gypsies she last came from used to wear.
Slowly fondling her ears, she slipped the halter over her head. Tayli shook her little face for a bit, then gave up. Mitchie watched her closely. Was she ready? Could she take her out of the yard, onto the hacking trails? It might have been early... but she seemed ready. Mitchie smiled softly at the little girl happily eating hay through her halter, then opened the door and led Teyli out. She simply followed her, too scared to go anywhere else. She barely needed a rope, but it would be safer.
Taking her out of the barn, she walked backwards, keeping an eye on the little mare, who happily bucked and frolicked around. She opened the gate, then they were out on the trails. Teyli was very wary of her new surroundings, sticking close to Mitchie, who seemed to be the only source of comfort, even if it was only a little bit.
She spotted the dun shape of a Criollo bucking as a small rabbit shot past her. Halting Teyli, Mitchie squinted at her, blonde bob bouncing as she did. When it had disappeared, she carried on at a fast walk, so that she could catch up. Teyli loved other horses, so it would be good to connect going out on the trails with something positive. They reached the pair, Teyli already bigger than her mare. Mitchie grimaced as she looked at the three year old. She was going to be big - really big.
"Hey Demeter," Mitchie greeted her, keeping Teyli from nuzzling the horse like she would in the field. Teyli snorted, sounding like she was introducing herself as well. Tossing her head, she looked like a right clown. Laughing, Mitchie calmed her and grinned up at Demeter.

Demeter sat deep in the saddle and asked her mare to halt. "Hey, beautiful." She greeted the filly gently, she loved the little horse's open honest face. She grinned at Mitchie. "Hey to you too."
She rubbed Sprite's neck as the mare turned her head and rubbed her nose up and down the girl's leg. "Eww! I was hoping, just hoping that I could at least have one ride where you didn't slime me!" She laughed as she patted the mare's shoulder and turned her attention back to Mitchie. "How's she going? Hey! Have I told you what her face tells me?" She frowned slightly, not knowing if she had told the other girl about her wonderful ability of being able to work out horse's personalities - and yes, she is oh so modest about it too! She giggled at the last thought.
Sprite pulled on the bit and shook her head, letting the human's know that she wanted to get going, it was boring standing still while they talked.
"I think that's her way of telling me to shut up." Demeter laughed

"Huh, so I don't get a beautiful?" She grinned, joking, then kissed Sprite lightly on the nose. "You're beautiful though! Oh yes you are, so very beautiful, although slimy" She kissed her on a non slimy part again, then wiped her hand on her tracksuit bottoms, grimacing. Smiling up at Demeter, she shook her head.
"What does her face say? And how do you know?" She asked, intrigued about her new friend's talent.
Suddenly, Teyli shook her head and half-reared, squealing.
"Hey, hey, hey. Shhh..." She spoke soothingly to her little mare. Teyli was saying she didn't want to, which Mitchie didn't understand. What didn't she want to do? "I'm not going to make you do anything sweetie, it's okay. Calm down baby," Teyli snorted loudly, and stared into the distance. Mitchie followed her gaze, but couldn't see anything in particular. "It's okay," She repeated. "Come on littlie, you're okay. There's nothing bad here." Mitchie shot a glance at Demeter, and smiled, softly stroking the trembling Teyli's nose. She ignored the thing her little filly was staring at, keeping a relaxed stance. "Well, she was doing well. It's her first time out here, so I guess she's been very good so far. She's seen something which's scared her, so it might take her a while to get down here. You can go on if you like. Maybe she'll follow once she's seen Sprite's not worried?"

Demeter smiled as she watched the young horse. "Her ears, eyes and mouth all suggest that she is actively intelligent, which could prove to be a curse and a blessing. As she will learn things quickly, but could tend to lead to her being misunderstood, as she will get bored of lessons very quickly if they are repeated too often." The young girl frowned. "Her nostrils however, say that she is a little stubborn." She shrugged.
She then gave a wicked grin. "How did I learn you ask?" She said, wondering how much the older girl would let away with before she was told to either shut up or grow up, or both. She looked in both directions and lowered her voice to a whisper. "You see, the medicine-man in our tribe gave me the gift of being able to talk to horses and have them talk back..." Her tale broke off as a giggle escaped her. She bit her lip and settled down again. "Uncle said that Dyl and I have a gift with horses. We both love books so he supplied us with all the books on natural horsemanship he could find. There is a lady named Linda Tellington-Jones, she created something called TTouch and TTeam work. One of her books is about analyzing a horses personality, I found that it's pretty much on the mark for most of the horses I've met so far."
When the filly started playing up, Demeter followed the horse's gaze. She listened carefully to Mitchie and nodded. "Okay, walk on Sprite." She increased the pressure with her calves and the mare walked off down the track, looking over her shoulder and giving the filly an encouraging nicker. "Just make sure that coming down the path is her idea." Demeter said over her shoulder, more out of habit then need as she knew the older girl knew what she was doing.

Mitchie rolled her eyes playfully as the little Demi called over her shoulder. She could feel Teyli's trembling lead rope starting to still a bit as her breaths slowed. She knew all about training horses - the eventers had been plenty nutty enough. Also, she'd read a few of the Linda Tellington-Jones books, about TTouch and all that stuff. She'd read it once, then started straight away and could do each exercise perfectly now. She'd done TTouch with Teyli a few times, and it felt like it was really helping her relax after a training session, and had made a real impact on their bond together.
Mitchie walked to her shoulder and whispered encouragingly to her, waiting for her to step forward first. She took a step, and Mitchie followed. She learnt quickly - as Demi had said - that as Mitchie walked, she walked, so they carried on along the path, side by side, with Mitchie only slightly ahead, directing her filly.

"Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay My, oh my, what a wonderful day Plenty of sunshine headin' my way Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
Mister Bluebird's on my shoulder It's the truth, it's actual Ev'rything is satisfactual Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay Wonderful feeling, wonderful day, yes sir!"
Demeter kept a her mare walking at a steady pace as she sang. The reins were hanging so it looked as though the rider had no contact whatsoever, but Demi knew that if anything went wrong, she would gather the reins and the mare would come on to the bit instantly.
She glanced over her shoulder to see if the filly had been brave enough to follow. "She's smart." she called to Mitchie as she asked Sprite to slow down a little until they were walking with Tayli. "Either that or she's just following herd instinct and knows that there is safety in numbers." She grinned as she looked ahead again. "Whatever it is she saw, can't be bothering her anymore otherwise she would never have followed. Her first priority is to keep her human safe."

Mitchie grinned, and gave Teyli a quick kiss on the nose. She blew back, and opened her mouth as if she was about to bite her nose, then licked it instead.
"Aw, sweetie!" She giggled and Teyli nibbled the top of her head, then they kept going. "She's so lovely! I can't believe that she didn't even want anyone near her a month ago." Gazing at her intelligent face, Mitchie kissed her filly's nose again, then they carried on. Teyli's head rested on her person's shoulder as she carried on.
"I was going to join-up with her tomorrow, guess I don't need to." She laughed, rubbing her velvety nose. "She totally trusts me..." She said softly as they walked next to the horse and rider.

Demeter laughed, the bond between Mitchie and Teyli was obvious. "Yes, she trusts you, but a join up will establish that trust even more. it will let her know that when the going gets tough, you will always be there for her." She blushed and looked down. "Truth be told, I do a join up with my girl at least once a month. it helps keep our bond strong, and reminds us of who we are when we feel lost. No matter where we are, it always seems to bring us home." She laughed again as Sprite nodded her head up and down, adding in her agreement. "And who says horses can't understand English?"
Sprite looked over her shoulder toward the filly. Suddenly sick of all the walking and talking, she wanted to have some fun. Snorting toward Teyli, she flattened her ears (for nothing more than effect) and threw up her back legs, sending dirt flying in all directions.

Teyli shyed away at first. Shaking her head, she blew cautiously at the dirt. Mitchie whispered to her filly, who gazed at the place where the dirt had landed, then decided she'd check it out once she was sure it wouldn't move again. She sniffed, and then looked up, deciding it was all okay and everyone could thank her. She whinnyed cheekily to tell them all.
Mitchie laughed and stroked Teyli's nose. "I know that you're amazing, yes I do!" She gently massaged her neck as the young roan rested her head on her owner's shoulder. "Shall we go then Teyli? We've stayed here long enough, and I'm hungry." She smiled at her little horse, then they were off again, along the trails. Teyli stared around, marvelling at all the birds and trees around, her ears pricked right forward as leaves rustled gently in the breeze, birdsong jingled around and the sounds of their feet together gently bumped along.

Demeter threw her head back and laughed. "I can't wait to see what she's like under a saddle." She said as she looked over her shoulder at horse and handler. "She has such a spunk while you're on the ground with her, I hope it continues while you're also on her back. She'll make for an interesting ride."
She nodded her head when Mitchie mentioned she was hungry. "I'm going to take Sprite for a good blast." She said. "She feeling her oats and could do with a really good gallop." She looked down the path they were following. "We will however need to go and find a good place to gallop though." She rubbed the mare's neck. "Can't have you putting your leg in a hole." she looked at Mitchie again. "I'll see you back at school. Oh, if you see Dyl, tell him to take a chill pill before he gives me a headache with all his worrying." She grinned. Even thought the twins couldn't read each other's minds (at will), They knew when the other was really excited or worry about something.

Mitchie smiled. "Definately. I just hope its a good kind of 'interesting'." She kissed Teyli's nose, then led her friend slowly through a hole in a bush that led onto a trail that went back to the school a slightly different way, so it was a bit more interesting for Teyli. Teyli sniffed the bush and decided it looked appetizing, so she took a mouthful. "Hey you!" Mitchie laughed, and diverted her attention from the food, so it sort of gave off the message that it was her own choice and much more interesting for Teyli to leave the food and return to doing what she was told
Teyli bouncily trotted alongside her owner's long strides, whinnying occasionally in excitement, and shying away at new things before Mitchie reassured her and got her going again. Eventually, they were walking through the gates and back into the main yard. Teyli's stride shortened as she bunched closer to Mitchie. Wasn't this strange? She hadn't got any bad ties with a yard at all, only out in the open, where she'd been beaten. And she'd been fine on the trails...
Frowning, Mitchie opened the stall and stepped back to let Teyli come in. She didn't. Sighing, she stepped in and looked confident. Teyli didn't like it. Come to think of it... she didn't like it at night time, and the stall had no lighting. Maybe Teyli was scared of the dark?
Mitchie gently coaxed her mare into the stall, but she didn't like it, so she led her out again. Tethering her with a firm but long rein, she went inside the stable and looked around for the window. It was boarded up for some reason. Thankfully, it was only paper so she could tear it out to let the light flow in. She looked through it out at the yard, then smiled and went to get Teyli. She was a lot happier once she realised that it wasn't dark, and happily went over to eat from her hay-net.
Mitchie remembered the lesson, but since she wasn't riding she didn't go. Bored, she stood in Teyli's stall and groomed her until she shone.

Once Mitchie and Tayli had vanished from sight, Demeter squeezed her mare into a trot and after trotting for a while and deciding that the ground they were following was safe, she turned the mare back the way they had come and her urged her into a canter and then a gallop.
Knowing that they had a lesson to attend, she kept the gallop a short blast and before too long they were slowing down to a fast walk again.
Just so the mare didn't think that she was allowed to gallop every time they headed toward the barn, they took another path to head home.
Once they arrived back at the barn, fully cooled out and happy. Demeter returned Sprite to her stall and unsaddled her so that she would have a chance to rest before the lesson started. "Rest, my sweet." She whispered as she kissed the mare's nose. "I'll see you in a couple of hours so we can face our first lesson. Maybe we'll get to jump."
